RUNNING and riding nearly 30 kilometres may not be everyone’s idea of socialising, but a local triathlon club hopes its move to cancel the potentially freezing swim leg will get more entrants.
The last winter meeting of the Hallidays Point Social Triathlon group is at Black Head on Sunday and, without the need to dip a toe in the water, is now a mere eight-kilometre run and 20km mountain bike ride.
The field will snake through the state forests behind the Tallwoods estate, and stream into the Black Head and Red Head reserves.
Coordinator Peter Ryall said competitors can opt to leave out one leg of the duathlon. There is no entry fee but, he stressed, entrants take part at their own risk. People of all ages and ability are welcome, and the race starts at 7.30am at Black Head pool. Call Ryall on 6559 2780 for more details.
The men’s winner at the club’s July meet was Rhett Pattison (1:20:14), and Helen Pursh (1:47:15) took out the women’s section.
