THE Great Lakes under 14 Reds wrapped up the minor premiership with an outright win over Chatham/Cundletown last Saturday.

On day one Reds won the toss and batted posting a great score of 4 for 261. Tom Allen and Lincoln Blissett put on an opening stand of 85 with Blissett (31) caught Kane Ogden, bowled Zac Corbett; then Allen was caught Corbett off Brodie Howard for 41.

Ryan Clark (2) was bowled by Howard, bringing Steven Cavanagh and Bryan Warren to the crease. They batted brilliantly, both being retired, Cavanagh on 53 and Warren on 51.

Adam Pearce showed his potential with a well constructed 25 before being caught Lucas Bramble off Dean Mills. Reece Bowden (9) and Zac Williams (0) were at the crease when the innings was declared.

For Cundle, Dean Mills took 1 for 21 off 5 overs, Zac Corbett 1/10 (4) and Brodie Howard 2/11 (3).

Chatham/Cundletown lost two wickets before the end of the days play. Dean Mills (4) was caught Reece Bowden off Lewis McDonald and Josh Startin (8) was caught and bowled Lincoln Blissett. Cundle was 2 for 36 at the close.

Day two saw Matt Wesley adjudged lbw first ball to a skidder off the wet pitch from Tom Allen. Kaleb McCubbin (0) was bowled in the same over. Lucas Bramble and Zac Corbett settled down and pushed the score along in face of a damp ball, which was swinging greatly. On 25, Bramble was beaten by the swing and bowled by Allen. Blake Howard was bowled for a duck by Bryan Warren, followed by Zac Gibson (0) who was bowled Reece Bowden.

Bowden then deceived Corbett with his spin and Allen took a brilliant one-handed slips catch to dismiss him for 13. Warren with the last two balls of the innings cleaned-bowled Kane Ogden for 5 and Brodie Howard for a duck. Kyson Henry remained not out 0. Cundle were all out for 60.

For the Reds, Bryan Warren took 3 for 16 off 6.3 overs, Lewis McDonald 1/10 (3), Lincoln Blissett 1/20 (5), Tom Allen 3/8 (5) and Reece Bowden 2/2 (3).

The Reds enforced the follow-on. Josh Startin and Kyson Henry opened, with Kyson being bowled in Michael Wood’s first over for 5. Incoming batsman, Kane Ogden, was caught Bryan Warren in Jessie Mills’s first over for no score and Cundle were 2 for 10. Startin and Zac Corbett steadied the ship, pushing the score to 42 before Corbett (15) was lbw to Steven Cavanagh.

Josh Startin was next to go, after an excellent 26, again excellently caught by Tom Allan off Zac Williams, this time at mid wicket. Kaleb McCubbin went for 3, well caught by Adam Pearce, using his height to

pull down a ball, off Allen. Scott Shelton (0) went next ball, but Allen missed out on his hat trick.

The next four batsmen fell for 7 runs. Matt Wesley (2) caught at the wicket by Cavanagh, Zac Gibson (1) caught Michael Wood, and Blake Howard (1) bowled, all by Lincoln Blissett. Brodie Howard was bowled by Bowden for a duck. Lucas Bramble after playing a dogged innings, remained not out 15 from 42 deliveries. Cundle were all out for 72, giving the outright to the Reds by an innings and 129 runs.

Bowling for the Reds, Michael Wood took 1 for 9 off 3 overs, Jessie Mills 1/14 (3), Steven Cavanagh 1/8 (3), Zac Williams 1/10 (3), Tom Allen 2/2 (3), Lincoln Blissett 3/3 (3) and Reece Bowden 1/3 (2).

Tom Allan was judged man-of-the-match for his 41 runs, 5 wickets and two great catches.

The Reds finished the season with 4 outright wins and 3 first innings wins. They scored 1247 runs for 46 wickets lost (average 27), for 587 runs scored against them with 117 wickets taken (av. 4.9); truly a great season. Like all sports, however, you are only as good as your last game and with the semi-finals to played next Saturday and Sunday the boys will have to concentrate to reach the final to be played over

the following weekend. At this stage it has not been confirmed who their opponents are, but will most likely be either Chatham/Cundletown or Old Bar, with Taree West and Wingham to fight out the other semi.
