Mother, daughter, get kick out of taekwondo

09 Jun, 2010 11:20 AM
PARTICIPATING in a sport for eight weeks does not usually equate to three gold medals and a silver medal in a sporting competition, but Taekwondo, begs to differ.

Participating with her daughter Ruby, Lisa Fields has recently come away with a handful of medals in the novice division in The State Development Championship Tae Kwon Do competition held at Great Lakes College Campus.

Both herself and Ruby won gold each in Self Defence, Patterns and Breaking, while both were just edged out in the Sparring category.

Lisa could not be happier with her and her daughter’s performance.

“Yeah it was just overwhelming,” she said.

“Best day we have ever had and it was such a good experience”.

Trained by the popular Fay Shacklock both Lisa and Ruby took to Tae Kwon Do straight away.

“We wanted to learn some self defence techniques, its also great brain training for me, and its new skills too.” Lisa said.

“Training with Fay is good, she really works you hard, and challenges you, she loves to push you too,” she said.

Lisa is also quick to stress how special it was to get this sense of achievement and to couple that with doing it with her daughter.

“It was extra special, it was a great sense of achievement for us, and it’s just a great sport.” she said.

Now, with her eyes set on achieving the yellow belt which is the second tier for those competing in Taekwondo, she is just focused on improvement.

“Well just keep up with the training, with Master Fay, she is great, and yeah, keep going."
