Kemp to tee off in NZ

24 Feb, 2010 08:39 AM
FORSTER Tuncurry’s professional golfer Sarah Kemp will be looking to step it up this week when she tees it up in the New Zealand Women’s Open.

The 24-year old is competing in the $NZ400,000 Pegasus New Zealand Women’s Open at the Pegasus Golf Course, just north of Christchurch.

Kemp along with Rachel Hetherington were on hand to open the course in December. She will be hoping to use that experience to her advantage this week.

The NZ Open is the first of three co-sanctioned events with the Ladies European Tour (LET) on the ALPG tour that Kemp will be playing in. Kemp will be competing against around 130 players including 50 top European players and invited players from America. She will be up against the likes of France’s Gwladys Nocera, who is the reigning NZ champion and has won 10 times on the LET, European No. 3, Wales Becky Brewerton, multiple winner on the LET in 2010 Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord, LPGA players Lori Kane and Becky Morgan.

Recent winners on the ALPG tour, Kristie Smith (ActewAGL Royal Canberra Ladies Classic) and Sarah Oh (Bing Lee/ Samsung NSW Women’s Open) are also likely to feature come the weekend.

The next three weeks are important to Kemp as a win in any of the events will allow her to play on the LET when she has weeks off on the LPGA.

After New Zealand, she then travels to the Gold Coast for the $600,000 ANZ Ladies Masters at Royal Pines and then down to Melbourne for the HANDA Women’s Australian Open.
