TUNCURRY professional golfer Sarah Kemp secured a top 10 finish in Canberra last week in the first of five major golf tournaments on the ALPG tour.
Kemp, who plays in America on the LPGA carded rounds of 70, 68 and 73 on the par 73 layout to finish at eight-under par total and outright 5th in the ActewAGL Royal Canberra Ladies Classic at the magnificent Royal Canberra Golf Club in Canberra.
Europe-bound youngster Kristie Smith showed her potential with a stunning final round charge to win the $125,000 Canberra Ladies Classic.
The 21-year-old West Australian tore around the Royal Canberra course in a nine-under par final round of 64 on Sunday to overhaul LPGA Tour star Katherine Hull and secure her first professional victory by two shots. Smith finished at 16-under par after rounds of 70, 69 and 64 on the par 73 layout, while Hull finished at 14-under par.
Queensland’s Sarah-Jane Smith finished outright third at 13-under-par with Victoria’s LPGA star Lindsey Wright fourth at nine-under par.
Kemp will now turn their focus to Oatlands Golf Club in Sydney when she lines up against basically the same field as Canberra in the Bing Lee/Samsung NSW Women’s Open.
Kemp, has great memories of the tournament, finishing in the top 10 three times in four appearances including a runner up finish a couple of year ago to Joanne Mills.
The NSW Women’s Open is being played from Friday February 5 to Sunday February 7 at Oatlands Golf Club.
Stars teeing it up include England’s star Laura Davies, LPGA stars Katherine Hull, Sarah-Jane Smith, Canberra’s Nikki Campbell who won in Japan last year and Canberra Classic winner Kristie Smith.
