TUNCURRY’S Sarah Kemp has missed her third straight cut on the US tour, with an early exit from the weekend’s CN Canadian Women’s Open after two bogey-riddled rounds.
Kemp finished at plus-11 after rounds of 80 and 73 at Calgary’s Priddis club, which left her 10 shots over the cut.
Friday’s opening round was ruined by six bogeys from seven holes starting at the fifth, and closed with a hat-trick of dropped shots. Starting on the back nine on Saturday, Kemp showed a glimpse of something better with an opening birdie, but bogeyed the next hole and never got going.
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen finished 15-under to take the US$412,000 winner’s cheque.
In a clinical display, she finished five shots clear of a group of five players tied for second, including Australia’s Karrie Webb. After the promise of 15th and 12th-place finishes at the Wegmans and Corning tournaments in June and July, Kemp’s season is faltering after she missed cuts at the British Open, Safeway Classic and at Priddis.
But she can get it back on track almost immediately at the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship, which started yesterday.
