A Grade

ON SATURDAY Forster Tuncurry A Grade cricket side travelled to Wingham's Cedar Party reserve to play Wingham. Being a two day match, the previous Saturday was washed out which meant that the game was now a one day match.

Forster's Captain Paul Swan won the toss and elected to bat first. Paul Swan and Dean Elliott opened the bat and made a good start scoring freely until Dean was caught for 7 in the 5th over with the score on 24.

Justin Malzard was next in to the crease with Allan May. Allan and Paul moved the score onto 32 when Allan was caught at 2nd slip for 1.

Greg Coughlin was next and was bowled for 2 and Forster were in trouble 4 for 39. Next in was Sam Hull with Paul and they took the score to 51 when Sam was caught at point for 4.

Sam Allan was in next to the crease and didn't bother the scorers trapped in front lbw first ball. This brought Brett Piggins to the crease. Brett and Paul steadied the ship and started to hit the boundary with ease until Brett was caught for 12. The score was then 7 for 87. Young Mitchell Clarke playing in only his second A grade game was next in. Mitch was quickly off the mark with a single which brought Paul back on strike. Next ball Paul skyed one and was caught for 58.l Another youngster in Scott Dornan playing his second game in A grade strode to the crease to join Mitch and the pair batted excellently putting on a partnership of 32, Mitch 20, Scott 2 not out to move the score along to 120 not out.

Forster being short a player in the field and two of its bowlers unavailable for this match, knew it was going to be a hard task to contain Wingham and needed some early wickets with the new ball. Dean Elliott and Brett Piggins opened the bowling and Brett got Forster off to the start they needed by claiming a wicket in his first over.

Next over saw Dean claim another wicket and Wingham were 2 for 3. This saw Wingham's two best batters Brad Staff and Ben Cole at the crease. Both started scratchy and escaped a couple of early chances then the pair put on a 99 run partnership when Mitch Clarke caught Ben Cole for 47 off the bowling of Allan May. Mick Stinson and Brad Staff then glided Wingham to victory. Staff unbeaten on 56 and Stinson 13. Score 3 for 125. Bowling figures Bean Elliot 1/32, Brett Piggins 1/35, Allan May 1/31, Sam Allan 0/20, Mitch Clarke 0/6. Thanks to this week's ball sponsor David from Prawns For All Occasions and Town Plumbing Supplies. Next week the teams travels to Jonny Martin Oval to take on Taree Leagues in a two day match. Saturday C Grade had the bye. This week C Grade plays Wallamba at Nabiac Oval.
