A MYALL Coast resident has called a public meeting to start the push for a 24-hour police presence in Tea Gardens Hawks Nest.
The February 18 meeting, instigated by Warwick Nichols, was sparked after a spate of break-ins late last year.
“After a firearm was (allegedly) discharged during a robbery, I became concerned,” Mr Nichols said.
“Somebody has got to do something.”
Port Stephens Police Commander Charles Hackett, Member for Port Stephens Craig Baumann and some Great Lakes councillors are expected to attend the public meeting. An invitation has also been extended to the Opposition Spokesperson for Police Mike Gallacher.
“Anyone who attends the meeting will be asked to complete a short survey, so please bring a pen,” Mr Nichols said.
“The purpose of the survey is to put ourselves in a position of having hard data to present to the government, rather than a petition which may only be perceived as emotional outpourings.”
All surveys and questions will be recorded, with the outcomes publicised as soon as possible.
Mr Nichols said it is likely a small working group will be formed on the night to collate information and to make sure the initiative is carried forward. The meeting is scheduled to start on February 18 at 7pm at the Baptist Church on Myall Way. The community is asked to arrive by 6.45pm.
