FOR a neat sum you can dictate whether Paterson MP Bob Baldwin wears a Kelly Gang bushy beard, has the handlebar look happening or dons a classic Errol Flynn moustache for a month.
Mr Baldwin, along with thousands of men across the country, will be growing out his facial hair all this month for Movember.
Deciding to grow a full beard for the first two weeks of the month, to ensure he has a complete canvas to work from, Mr Baldwin will manscape his facial hair in the style of the most popular suggestion from his constituents or the highest donator.
“I’ve had suggestions of every kind come at me, and I will be swayed by public opinion.”
In its sixth year the Movember campaign attempts to raise awareness and understanding of men's health issues, particularly prostate cancer and depression. Acting as a talking point, the moustaches will, it is hoped, break the ice and remove stigma that shrouds these issues and promote early detection and diagnosis for effective treatment.
The main messages of the month are that men over 50-years-old, and those over 40 with a family history, are at risk of prostate cancer and are encouraged to be tested annually.
While one in eight men in Australia will experience depression in their lifetime and there is no shame in seeking help.
Mr Baldwin is encouraging constituents to join his team and either grow a moustache as a Mo Bro, or sign on as a Mo Sista and help out with raising funds.
