Input sought on Crown Harbour Masterplan

10 Mar, 2010 08:15 AM
A PUBLIC meeting was expected to be held last night to discuss a long term plan for the twin towns' harbours and foreshores.

The Forster Tuncurry Crown Harbour Master Plan is a joint project between Great Lakes Council and the Land and Property Management Authority (previously the Department of Lands).

The master plan takes in Cape Hawke Harbour and its islands and all public foreshore lands and adjacent waters between the Sporties Club and the end of Point Rd in Tuncurry.

It also takes in the areas from The Bullring public baths on Forster Main Beach and the lake front to Barclays.

The public meeting was planned to be held at the Tuncurry Community Hall and a design team was on hand to answer questions and listen to ideas from the public. Minister for Lands Tony Kelly says the project will consider future safe harbour facilities for both lake and ocean going vessels while preparing for an expected increase in demand for improved public access and public boating facilities in the near to long term future.

“The plan will identify opportunities to generate employment as well as reviewing commercial land uses to support the construction and maintenance of public facilities.”

Mr Kelly said the plan will seek to support social, economic and environmental sustainability.

“This is a very important opportunity for an integrated approach for the long term planning of this vital and beautiful area.”
