SEVEN people have been arrested and nine charges laid, following a three day crackdown by local police over the weekend.
Part of a 72 hour statewide operation, which kicked off 6am Friday and wrapped up midnight Sunday, saw local police lay charges for break and enter, stealing, malicious damage, robbery and traffic offences.
Operation Avert 4 targeted offenders who had been identified by fingerprint and DNA evidence for other crimes, outstanding warrants and bail offences.
Manning Great Lakes police breathalysed 281 people, and charged two with traffic offences.
Highway patrol officers stopped motorists for random breath tests, licence enforcement and warrant checks.
Manning Great Lakes Commander, Superintendent Paul Fehon said the arrests showed the commitment of police in weeding out those who think they can break the law and get away with it.
"These good results couldn't have been achieved without the hard work of the officers involved in the operation and we will continue to work hard to make the community safe," he said.
"Our local community can be assured that we will not take a backwards step when it comes to crime and those caught doing the wrong thing will be arrested."
Operation Commander, Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli thanked all police officers involved for their achievements.
"The weekend results once again show the dedication of police in ensuring community safety reducing further crime by taking criminals off the streets," Commissioner Mennilli explained.
"This is the fourth operation of its kind and it is clear to see that Operation Avert has been a successful tool in putting criminals before the courts to face the consequences of their actions."
The community is urged to throw their support behind police and report all crimes and any suspicious behaviour to either the local police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
All information about any crime will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
